Black Flag

Wasted...Again

Released: 1987

Black Flag's Wasted...Again is less a greatest hits collection than a stark reminder of how ferocious and influential the band could be at each stage of their evolution. It doesn't stick to a single era (or vocalist) and it captures pretty succinctly their complete refusal to stay in one lane, shifting from that early hardcore sound that made them a staple in the scene, to something darker and heavier that ended up helping to shape underground music for decades.

As an entry point it's pretty hard to beat, and as a retrospective it still does a great job staying confrontational and uncompromising (much unlike their current iteration which only serves to spark a Ship of Theseus debate over when a band is no longer the band they once were; which is very apparently now, if not a couple decades ago).

Standout tracks: “TV Party” “Six Pack” “The Ending Of An Age”, "Jealous Again"
